Scot at Staunton, VA - April 28, 2007
| Scot Yarbrough began playing bass
with the Lewis Family the summer of 2004. Scot is from McCormick, SC. He has a
biology degree, and he worked for the state of South Carolina for nine years. His
wife, Heather, is a science teacher at the Lincolnton, GA high school. Scot and
Heather celebrated 8 years of marriage on October 29, 2005. Scot first attended the Lewis Family Homecoming and Bluegrass Festival in 1998. He met Little Roy around the time he began learning how to play the banjo. When the Lewis Family was searching for someone to play bass, Little Roy called Scot. Scot hadn't played the bass very much, but he was excited at the opportunity to work with the Lewis Family. Polly says Scot would sit and listen to their music over and over as he learned how to play the songs. Little Roy told Scot as long as he keeps smiling he will do OK. Scot's parents, Ray and Betty Yarbrough, are very proud of their son's new job. In fact, the first time his mother saw him playing with the Lewis Family, she was so proud and happy that she cried. Little Roy said he understood completely - the first time he heard Scot play, he cried too! Scot loves traveling and meeting new people. His key word is 'positive'. He spends his time emphasizing the positive points no matter what the situation. Scot has his CDL so he can drive the bus. When Little Roy was teaching Scot how to drive the bus, they went down a hill a little faster than Polly, Janis and Miggie thought they should. They cried 'Let Little Roy drive!' Scot said they sounded like little birds back there cheeping at him. Being the positive guy he is, he said not to worry, and sure enough, they made it safely. Scot and Heather have pet chihuahuas. Heather has even taught them to talk; they can say "I love you". Another piece of trivia: Scot is left handed. He plays the bass right handed except for some of his runs. When Scot is not traveling with the Lewis Family he plans to do some substitute teaching. He also plans to spend time perfecting his bass playing. Scot says it is a great honor and privilege for him to be able to play bass with the Lewis Family. He desires to play the best he can to uphold the great tradition and reputation of the Lewis Family. He wants to help carry the Lewis Family forward for many more years. |
