Polly at Staunton, VA - April 28, 2007

An Open Letter to Fans & Friends,

It is with a heavy heart I write these words to all of you who have supported my mama, Polly, and The Lewis Family for many years.  A few days ago, Mama was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, plus Lewy body dementia.  While Parkinson’s typically affects motor skills, over 50% of Parkinson’s patients develop Parkinson’s disease dementia (PDD), which is a Lewy body dementia that affects cognitive skills by disrupting perception, thinking, and behavior.  By the symptoms Mama is experiencing, we are told that she is in the very early stages.  She has begun medication and we are hopeful because of the early diagnosis.  It is important to Mama that all of you know so that your prayers would be with her in the years ahead as she continues traveling.

I’m certain that all of you who have ever met her are fully aware of why her grandfather called her “Sunshine”.  If you were fortunate enough to meet her, you also know that she never forgot a face or a name.  While everything inside me wants to scream out that life isn’t fair, I am quietly stilled by the message that each of our families has sung about through the years.  God is faithful and is an ever present help in our time of need.

Mama is committed to the music and to the fans, just as her Daddy, Mama and brother were committed for so many years.  She plans to continue her regular touring schedule of 100,000 miles annually for as many years as God allows and is looking forward to seeing each of you through her travels.  Please pray for Mama.  We love and deeply appreciate all of you for your concern and continued prayers.

Polly is the middle of the three Lewis daughters.  She and Little Roy do most of the mtpollyleon.jpg (18365 bytes)MC work onstage. Polly has been featured on many of the best-known Lewis Family songs including 'Slippers With Wings'. Polly has a daughter, Sheri Easter, and a son, Scott Williamson.  In 1984 Polly lost her husband, Elzie Williamson, to a heart attack.  A few years later (1991) she married Leon Copsey, and Leon travels a lot with the group also.  You can find him at their product table.  Polly also does the mail for the group when she is home.  Even though she has a very busy schedule, Polly's family is very important to her, and she tries to spend time each week with her grandchildren.
